Obituary of John S. Rivers

RIVERS- John S. of Port Colborne passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the age of 72. Beloved husband of Sherry (nee O’Neil) loving father of John (Janet) and Steve (Tammy), dear grandfather of Jason, Jennilynn, Juliette, Sarah (Jim), Kenny, Jack and Angel, great grandfather of Thatcher, brother of the late Bonnie King (Ron), Bill (Nancy) and Gerry (Sue) brother-in-law of Arlene (Russ) Parker and James O’Neil. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. John was predeceased by his parents Jack and Del Rivers, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Addie and Tom O’Neil. At John’s request, cremation has taken place. John proudly served the Port Colborne community for 43 years at Central Sunoco with the Ealaschuk family.  He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour and his amazing ability to build anything he set his mind to, including deceptively fast boats, complicated stereo equipment, a working model train set and model planes.  He lovingly restored many old cars and enjoyed Under Siege more than the average person (based on the four copies on various medium located to date).  Finally, if anyone knows how to work his stereo, assistance would be gladly accepted. The family would like to thank Tracey and all of the health care professionals that supported John throughout his illness. The Rivers family will receive visitors at the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.  Funeral service will be held in the Davidson Chapel on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Brian Lofthouse officiating.  Private family interment will be held at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens at a later date. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels or to Mark Preece Family House (Hamilton). Online guest register and condolences available at www.davidsonfuneralhome.com
