Phil Schertzing

SCHERTZING, Phil - Surrounded by his family’s love, Phil, at 67 years of age, has gone to join his beloved mother, Marie Schertzing (1996), father Phil J. Schertzing (2016) and sister-in-law Dianne (Bert) Schertzing (2012) in  Heaven.  This farewell comes with heavy hearts and tears.  Phil fought a courageous battle with stage 4 lung cancer for at least a year.  He will be forever loved and greatly missed by his wife of 39 years (Eva), his children Holly, Amy (Nick), Clint (Rachel), and Daniel. Opa’s love will live on through his grandchildren Rylan, Ethan and Kaycie.  He will also be dearly missed by his siblings Bert (Nell), Jack (Carmalena), Elizabet (Jasper), Catharina (Sidney), Linda (Dave), Vera (Mark), Rob (Monika), Mary (Kirk), Frank (Rachelle), Nancy (Mark) and Mike (Tara), loving brother-in-law of Dolores (Len) Damignani, and Ron D'Agostin.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.  He was a man of great strength, knowledge and wisdom who dedicated his life to providing for his family, working very hard. Phil sacrificed countless hours of his time developing farmland and farming for 30 years, as well as working as a steamfitter for another 30 years.  He loved his work, and many coworkers, especially the great crew at MP Welding Ltd.  Special thank you to nurses Dawn, Jocelyn, Helen and Jill (EMS).  Cremation has taken place at Phil’s request.  There will be no visitation.  Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Bosco Church in Port Colborne on October 16, 2019 at 11:00 am.  Arrangements are entrusted to Davidson Funeral Home 135 Clarence St. Port Colborne. If so desired, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.  Online condolences and guest register available at www.davidsonfuneralhome.com
