Obituary of Shirley Young

YOUNG- Shirley passed away peacefully on December 16, 2017 at Woodlands of Sunset Nursing Home in Welland at the age of 90. She is predeceased by her parents John and Hetti Roth of North Easthope. Shirley is survived by her loving family, Robert, her husband of 57 yrs, her daughters, Jo Ann (Steven) Wilhelm of Stratford, Barb (Scott) Christopher of Wellandport, and her son John (Noreen) Young of Welland.  She is also survived by her much loved grandchildren, Heidi, Luke (Elizabeth) and Becky Wilhelm, Rob (Michelle) and Jen Christopher, Amber, Logan, Margaret and Kayla Young. She is also survived by her sister Pearl (Joe) Young of New Hamburg.  Sister in law of Mildred Roth, Fern Roth, Paul Fehrman, Kay (Wilmer) Schwank and Cathy (Marvin) Bankert. Pre deceased by her brothers, Earl Roth and Francis Roth and sisters, Mary (Walter) Jantzi and Marjorie Fehrman and brother in law Donald Young. The family would like to thank the caring staff of The Pines at Woodlands of Sunset for the excellent care Shirley received over the last number of years.  Shirley also had a wonderful caregiver, Merlyn, who has lived with them and has helped with their care for the past 9 years. Shirley and Robert founded Young Sod Farms and she spent many years enjoying the administration end of the business until dementia took over her life in her latter years.  She enjoyed bird watching and making quilts and was especially loved by her extended family and many friends.  The Young family will receive visitors at the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME, 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m., which will follow in the Davidson Chapel.  Private family burial will follow at the Reformed Mennonite Cemetery in Stevensville.  If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.  Online guest register and condolences available at www.davidsonfuneralhome.com
