ROSSI- Erno Delano of Port Colborne passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the Welland County General Hospital at the age of 84. Loving husband of 59 years to Elaine (née Biederman), dear father of Cynthia and Lisa Rossi. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Francesco (Frank) and Irene Rossi (née Hramitz), his brothers Joe (Jean), Keith (Rose) and Gerald (Marilyn). Erno was a freelance writer, photographer, outdoor enthusiast, world traveller, best selling author and historian. He was a graduate of McMaster University, the University of Toronto’s Teachers College and Michigan State University where he received his Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies and Wildlife Management. Erno was the Head of the History Department at Port Colborne High School and taught history, sociology and survival for over 20 years, retiring in 1993. He was the author of White Death - The Blizzard of ‘77, Full Moon, Crystal Beach - The Good Old Days and co-authored the history textbook Many Cultures Many Heritages. In 2012, Erno spearheaded the Friends of the Port Colborne Lighthouses, a non-profit group of dedicated volunteers to save the lighthouses from destruction. Since 2013 they have been added to the Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival and offer tours to the public. By Erno’s request, cremation has taken place. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens.
