Jean and family,
I have only just stumbled upon Terry’s obituary. Pls accept my most sincere condolences. I have long regretted losing touch with Terry. I tried to find you both once - visited your old address in Georgetown. (The gentleman who answered the door must have had previous visits from people looking you up - he rolled his eyes!). I met Terry in the first few days of Law I at U of Windsor. We drank together, we studied together, we paired up for any partnership assignments we could and he enriched my law school experience immeasurably. He had the greatest sense of humour - probably would be called “dad humour” now, but his jokes were always well timed. Unlike the rest of us twenty-somethings, he had life figured out and he knew what he wanted and why he was there. I looked up to him a great deal. I am so sad since reading the obit, but it has brought back so many happy memories of U of W and Terry. Peace be with you all,
Judi George

Such a lovely tribute to uncle Terry. The words and images in his memorial convey exactly how I will always remember him. My time spent with uncle Terry at family gatherings, swimming in the pool, playing with Lady, and sitting on his knee at grandma's house believing he was truly Santa Claus will stay with me forever. He made a point of asking me how things were and what I was doing in life each and every time we crossed paths. This has left a lasting impression...thinking of aunt Jean, my cousins and all of our family while sending lots of love.

Dear Jean & family, Very saddened to hear of Terry’s passing. I never met Terry in the RCAF although it appears our paths must have crossed at Centralia in early 1959. It wasn’t till quite a bit later in the 1980s at Air Canada that I shared time & space with Terry doing instructing on the B767 and then in the 1990s on the B747 Classic. At times Terry & I would do a trip together just for fun, and fun it was. Couldn’t ask for a better team mate & fellow pilot. In the late 1990s I also joined SkyService as a contract captain and worked for Terry in his role as Chief Pilot. Then to top it off I joined with Terry & Rollie Cook to do Asiana Airlines training in Korea and had a great time exploring Seoul and surrounding area.
Terry was truly a wonderful colleague to work with & for. He will be greatly missed.
My sincere condolences, Ted Climenhaga

Dear Jean and Family
We are very saddened to hear of the passing of Terry. He was a very special person who we will always remember as embodying the finest qualities as a friend, and Airline Captain.
In the early years we flew together and I was always impressed with his ability and steady demeanor, which became even more apparent as he advanced to other accomplishments as a lawyer and in senior airline management. Throughout the years I could count on Terry to share his wisdom and judgement with me on many diverse issues. He was so highly regarded by his peers, other crew members and employees. His was truly a life well lived and we were fortunate to have had the privilege of knowing him.

Sincere condolences to all the Dowd family and friends.
First met then F/O Terry when he did my final check ride on the Chipmunk March 2, 1959. We later shared many laughs and stories during our careers at Air Canada. Consummate professional in all his endeavours. Wonderful that he accomplished so many things before his final "retirement" at age 82.

I remember the day in the early 50’s when Terry and his friend, Jack MacMillan walked into the St. Catharines Flying Club to inquire about taking flying lessons. Little did I know then what an industrious career in aviation this man would have!

Dear Jean and family, my sincerest condolences. I flew with Terry several times in my career, one particular night stands out in my memory. Terry was training me on the 747 classic. We flew an empty 747 to Hamilton to do touch and goes. the airplane was very light, and after each landing and then go around the 747 would climb like a homesick angel !! We were both smiling from ear to ear. That night we had a lot of fun! Terry's sense of humor and intelligence made it a pleasure to fly with him.
When I read Terry's obituary I was sad, but also inspired by the poem that captures Terry's spirit. On a clear night and I look up and see starlight I shall remember and say to myself, hey Terry, thanks....
With my highest regard and respect
Brian Campbell

Thank you, Brian. You really captured Dad’s love of flying and teaching. He was always so well prepared, knowing he was responsible for the valuable equipment he was flying and most importantly the number of souls in the back of the plane who depended on him to get them safely to where they were headed. His aircraft became an extension of him and he had an intuitive feel for each aircraft, regardless of its size. Dad could make any occasion filled with joy, but especially when he was flying.

Dear Jean and family.....we are so sad to hear the news of Terry's passing. I will never forget your dads face when this skinny, frightened 20 something girl, I think 1976 or 77, looking for Uncle Bill and Aunty Ada's house in Florida opened the door of the house. I asked this person if the house might by chance be Bill and Ada's. He said yes and opened the door. I saw Uncle Bill and ran crying into his arms. I had been lost for quite some time. Uncle Bill didn't recognize me. He's shaking his head at Terry behind me and thank goodness for Aunty Ada came running out of the kitchen and said its Jacqueline. All was right with the world and Terry and I had a a great visit and a connection after that. I have never forgotten that first meeting. Terry and, of course, Bill and Ada were always so good to me. He will be truly missed Irene Haslam, Jacqueline and Gerald, Lorraine and Doug

To Jean and family
Terry was a very valued and loved member of the family. We have such happy memories of time spent together over the past 60 plus years. There are, of course, too many to mention. One special memory was time spent in France with Terry and Jean, with Terry being our tour guide, as we visited the military cemeteries in the north of France. It was a particularly thought-provoking time, but also packed with laughs. Anyone knowing Terry will attest to his sense of humour.
David enjoyed bird-watching with Terry and Gavin over the years. Terry had a special interest in ducks and made sure all he encountered were well fed. David was an avid bird watcher, but he has never forgotten that Terry corrected him in his identification of a female Mallard Duck. He also has great memories of their annual Invitational Golf Tournaments that consisted only of 3 players.
We were always so proud of Terry’s many achievements, especially his Call to the Bar. However, we also admired Jean the way she supported him, while managing to keep the homefires burning, and accomplishing so much herself.
We will miss Terry so much, but we will never forget his laughter.
Much love, Barbara and David

I was a 25 year old DC-9 first officer when I flew with Terry. I see from my logbook that we did some trips into JFK, which was always busy, and one leg from Ottawa to Montreal which was very short. There is a saying amongst airline pilots that you take the best and worst qualities of the captains that you flew with into your own cockpit as a captain. Terry was one of the best if not the best.
Condolences to all the family. He was a great man.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Terry’s recent passing. He was an old friend and classmate from Windsor Law, Class of 1985. While there was a 25 year age difference between Terry and most of us in our 1st year class in 1982, he fit in perfectly, was a great classmate and a good friend during that time, especially for Thursday Pub nights! He was always prepared for class, ready to discuss difficult subjects and was always willing to help others that needed extra assistance, all while ‘moonlighting’ as the semi-retired Senior Air Canada Pilot that he was, flying to and from Europe on weekends. For those of us in our mid-twenties at the time, he was a great role model of someone that had accomplished much and had lived life to the fullest, yet was still prepared to put himself through the rigours and competition of Law School. While we lost touch after Law School, I only became aware with his passing that we both shared Port Colborne as a home and home town. What an incredible surprise for me to learn that, but it really never came up in conversation! With my sincere condolences to Terry’s family, Arthur Lee, LLB, Windsor Law 1985 (formerly of 223 Ash Street, Port Colborne).

Thank you so much for sharing this with us, Arthur. Dad was a special guy and touched so many people’s lives because of all of his pursuits. COVID has deprived us of the ability to meet and share these stories in person right now - I’m sure we’d have an awful lot of laughs together with everyone if we could. So it is truly appreciated that you’ve shared this wonderful account of that time in Dad’s life and his impact on yours.
